Vaccinations & Medical Care No specific vaccinations are required for Mongolia, however a few could be recommended such as; hepatitis A, polio, tetanus and typhoid. Due to the elevation and location, there are no tropical diseases in Mongolia. You need to bring your own private medicine, including health products from home, since it might not be available in Mongolia. In the rural areas medical care is limited, however on all long trips outside Ulaanbaatar a First Aid Kit is carried by Nomadic Journeys. On our Horse trail journeys a Mongolian medical doctor follows groups of minimum SIX persons on horseback, to provide assistance in case of an emergency. If you belong to a smaller group please ask us to include this service for you, for some additional cost. There is a western standard clinic in Ulaanbaatar. SOS Medica - staffed by South African and Mongolian medical doctors. They speak English, and provide medevacs and attend emergencies, as well as consultations. www.sosmedica.mn Nomadic Journeys have partnered with SOS Medica, a International SOS affiliated clinic on a optional temporary membership (Short Term Traveler Membership) which would cover you for emergency medical evacuation (medevac) in the case of an accident or illness, while in Mongolia. Some of our travelers trip costs are included in this. Others are not. For those who are not, we strongly recommend to sign up for one. It covers you for medevac by whatever means available (incl. helicopter), stabilization at SOS Medica and continued evacuation to third country and repatriation. The cost for this is only USD 40 per person for one month. Travelers with pre-existing medical conditions are not covered nor travelers over 70 years.
